Now that you have reviewed your accomplishments and released the stuck energy of the pasts 12 months, it’s time to begin painting the picture of what you want to create instead.


In the process you are going to craft a vivid description of exactly what you want to create in your life in the next 12 months and beyond. You are going to do this for each important area of your life.

So the areas you are going to focus on are:

  • Financial
  • Career/Business
  • Relationships
  • Physical
  • Fun and Vacation
  • Spiritual

Let’s break each of these down some because what you are going to do is get really detailed.

  • Financial (how much money you want to make, have in savings, investments, retirement, trusts, etc.) What does that look like exactly
  • Career/Business (what you want to create over the next year, get a promotion, land your dream job, triple the revenue in your business, land a big client)
  • Relationships (includes spouse/partner, dating, children, work associates, friends and family, parents, pets, community, exes)
  • Physical (health and wellness, recreation, physical environment, stuff like cars, TV’s boats and such0
  • Fun and vacations (travel, staycations, movies, hobbies, skiing, summer fun, concerts, plays, etc.)
  • Spiritual (relationship with self, with higher power, with spiritual community, religious community, community service, tithing, rituals, etc.)

I free flow write mine and then type it into my computer as my planning process for the year and to create my life vision year after year.

Now this is quite a bit of work so first off, you want to create sacred space and set your intention.

If you do not have the time to design all of them at once, do one a day for a week. Put it in your schedule and spend an hour or two designing your life.

Get detailed and right down to the nitty gritty. Then your vision for the year will be laid out and you can begin to set some tangible goals to help you get there.

Winter Solstice is a time when we experience the longest period of darkness and the shortest daylight hours before the rebirth of the sun as the daylight hours begin getting longer again on their way to Summer Solstice.

At Winter Solstice we are also closing out the past calendar year as we head toward the New Year. That is why this is a powerful time to do this ritual AND really, any time is a good time to do this writing exercise.

For Solstice Writing you want to:

  • Have your writing tools (I use my journal and I like to use a purple ink pen)
  • Clear your space and prepare for the process

Ask yourself the following questions and journal them:

Looking back over the year:

  • What were my biggest successes over the past year?
  • What did I accomplish? What goals did I reach
  • Where and when did I experience the most love, joy, fun and happiness?
  • When during the year was I totally blissed out?
  • What were my biggest sources of inspiration?
  • What new people and environments did I bring into my life that add value or enrich my life?
  • Did anything else wonderful happen over the past year that is not listed before?

Always begin with what went right, what you accomplished, what was really good. It’s so easy to go right to what went wrong or didn’t happen especially if we have had a challenging or lousy year. If we focus on the crap first, then when we get to the good stuff we can’t see it because we have put ourselves in a low energy vibration. If we focus on the good stuff first, then when we get to the not-so-good stuff, we are in a higher vibration, can think more clearly and maybe all that not-so-good stuff doesn’t look so bad when we compare it to the good that happened to us over the year.

Once we have probed the good stuff and done our writing, we want to probe into what was not so great. Looking back over the year, journal the following questions and by the way, if you are not a writer, you can draw pictures in response to your question too but pen to paper works better than speaking them out loud. Writing is a kinesthetic activity that engages both the conscious and unconscious mind. So again, looking back, answer these questions:

  • What were the biggest challenges that I faced this past year?
  • What goals or dreams did I have for this past year that I did not manifest or that did not pan out and why?
  • What did I learn?
  • What does this say about me?
  • Where/when did I experience my lowest emotional points during the year?
  • Where did I feel like I just could not catch a break?
  • What situations, environments and/or people are draining me or holding me back?
  • What limiting beliefs do I have that are holding me back?
  • What behaviors or habits do I have that are holding me back?
  • What is the story that I keep telling as to why I don’t have what I want?
  • Am I ready to let this go and create a clean canvas to paint my future on and why am I ready?

How can we turn our limiting thoughts and words around to our benefit? How can we create something out of seemingly nothing (word or thought)? Many times I think the focus is more on tangible results (what we currently are experiencing) than on the thoughts and words that are going to create a different result.

Ancient Native American wisdom says that your experience today is based on yesterday’s thoughts and words and tomorrow’s experience is based on today’s thoughts or words.

It’s time to change the thoughts and language today for different results tomorrow. Here are just a few things to focus on. I know that you already know this but monitor yourself during the day over the next week and notice how often you use disempowering language or have disempowering thoughts. When you do notice change the thought or word.

  • Instead of should, use desire, choose, want, could
  • Instead of can’t, say “I choose not to” or “I am unwilling to”
  • Instead of but, use and
  • Instead of try, use aim, or intend
  • Instead of problem, use opportunity or challenge

There are many ways that we can change our thoughts and language. These are just a few.

I read an article a while back, the author said he has noticed there are 4 levels that people invest in the mentoring process (I’m paraphrasing):

  • The Toe Dipper: Toe Dippers want information but don’t necessarily want to pay for it. They dip their toe into free webinars and teleseminars, free downloads and articles but rarely financially invest in the mentoring process. This is lower level of commitment and it can show up in their results or lack thereof.
  • The Double Dipper: Double Dippers put both toes in the mentoring waters to invest in books and low cost audio programs and the caution is that many times it ends up on the shelf (shelf-help) without having done anything with them. They may read the books but never do the exercises in the book or they listen to the audio programs but bypass the exercises. Again, lower level investment and commitment; what are the results?
  • The Wader: Waders step into the mentoring waters with both feet through group mentoring programs, workshops and seminars. I love group mentoring programs/seminars AND you must show up for the program to get results. If you are committed and show up and do the work, you will be rewarded a higher level of success especially if you have access to the expert. Higher investment equals higher commitment which leads to greater results.
  • The Diver: Divers are ready to dive right into the mentoring waters through one on one mentoring with an expert. They are ready and willing to invest in their success no matter what. Nothing is going to stop them from bringing their Vision to Reality. This is the highest level of commitment and leads to the greatest results.

With each level of financial and time investment, your commitment level to your success jumps up. The higher the commitment, the higher the success rate. The lower the commitment…well, you can figure that one out. That seems to be the rule of thumb in the mentoring industry.

There is a television program on TLC Network called “Say YES to the Dress”. On this reality show, women go into an upscale bridal salon in New York or Atlanta with their entourage to find the perfect wedding dress for their Big Day.

As they try to find the perfect dress, they have to deal with their entourage’s opinions on whether or not is it the right dress for them. Most of their entourage is more interested in their own personal opinions than what is best for the Bride or what she truly wants. Many times this causes drama (which is why the reality show is easy to relate to).

For example mom or dad may want to see their “little princess” in a fairy tale ball gown when the Bride wants a sexy form fitting mermaid and the Maid of Honor wants to see her in tons of bling when the Bride really wants something simple. This leaves the Bride confused and she stops trusting her own intuition around what is perfect for her. (hang in there, I have a point, honest)

In the end, it is the EXPERT Consultants in the bridal shop that help the Bride overcome all of the many voices of different opinions confusing her, help her find her perfect dress, get the entourage in agreement  and get the Bride to “Say YES to the Dress”.                       (it’s a fun show to watch)

The same thing can happen in your business and your life. You are looking for that perfect fit to your vision of success, and you share your vision and challenges with those that you love and people in your circle of influence.

Suddenly you are deluged with everyone’s opinion of what you should do, what you shouldn’t or can’t do, what your vision should really look like and how you should move forward or backward.

This can cause your gut instinct and intuition to wobble and wane. You lose trust in yourself; second guess yourself and wonder if you are doing the right thing. Then confusion sets in because you have too many external voices competing with your many internal voices which can cause complete chaos or lack of movement.

Suddenly you’re trapped!!!

You feel STUCK!!!

Take ACTION: Action is King!!! With action you are taking your mindset to physical form. This is where the rubber meets the road. Nothing happens without action. Now it is tempting to get overwhelmed because your desire may seem a long way off. You don’t have to know all the “how’s” that are going to get you the success you desire. Just take a step and then another. Martin Luther King, Jr. said “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”. Once you begin taking action you can make course corrections as you get feedback from your results.

Proclaim that which you wish to achieve: Begin Proclaiming out loud, what your desire is. Proclaim as if you already have it. Live out loud about it. A proclamation is strong, it sounds more like a law; “The Queen Proclaims…”. Make your word LAW by proclaiming your success. When you say it out loud and when you share it with supportive people, you cultivate a stronger belief in yourself to achieve that which you desire. Bring in your emotions. Emotions are energy in motion and a key part of your success mindset. Write it down and read your proclamation several times a day out loud with power.

Create Power Questions: Affirmations are powerful in the success process but they need supportive players. Power Questions are one of the supports. The unconscious mind responds to questions so while affirming that which we want to create is great, we now need to engage the unconscious mind. We do that by asking powerful questions. “How can I create $150,000 worth of revenue in my business?” Then the unconscious mind can go to work and provide the answers. The only requirement for this is that you must be open to listen and trust the answers you get and those answers may come in many forms. Then ask, “Why am I so successful and have created $150,000 worth of revenue in my business?” This reprograms the subconscious mind that you are indeed creating what you desire and the unconscious mind begins to look for evidence that it is indeed so. So ask powerful questions, listen, and stay aware. State your power questions and believe that you have already created your desires.

Create Powerful Affirmations to support the visualizations: Affirmations are created in language using the present tense as if you have already achieved your goal or desire. Affirmations are the seeds that we plant in the fertile soil of our minds. Begin your affirmation with “I am so happy and grateful now that…” or “I am so grateful and fulfilled now that…” or I am so excited and grateful now that…” and then complete your affirmation in the present tense such as “I am so excited and grateful that I am NOW earning $150,000 per year doing what I love in my own business.”
